About GUS GARRIDO, Hons.B.A, J.D.

Gus Garrido's career as a lawyer spans over 25 years: After his call to the Bar in 1995, Gus spent the first years of his professional career as a plaintiff-side litigator, handling personal injury, negligence, employment and breach of contract cases. The latter part of his career was spent as defence counsel for the Toronto Transit Commission, ING Insurance and then as senior defence counsel for Intact Insurance, before re-training as a mediator and founding Garrido Mediation Inc. in 2016.

He has appeared before the Superior Court and the Court of Appeal as well as the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Ontario Labour Board, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Workers Safety Insurance Appeals Tribunal. Since founding Garrido Mediation Inc., he has conducted over one thousand mediations, and his experience on both sides of the litigation fence provides him with a unique perspective on the mediation process.

He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Advocates Society, and has trained in the Harvard method of dispute resolution with the Stitt Felt Handy group in Toronto.
